Sadler's Wells, London
What is it that makes us read stories into people before they even speak? How do we decide they are diffident, out-going, self-interested, empathetic? That their story contains sadness, violence, abundance or loss?
What do we see in the little ways people stand, move, gesture differently that is the ‘tell’ without us - or them - knowing?
Of course, there is no objectivity here and no rules. Everyone sees with their own lens. Everyone shapes themselves and is shaped by their life in different and personal ways.
But if we can be more aware of the habitual ways we stand and move through the world ourselves, we may be able to find more nuanced variations and new possibilities that give us insight into our own patterns, and invite the audience to read us differently when we wish to tell another story.
In this workshop we will use small, slow, detailed Awareness Through Movement lessons from the Feldenkrais Method, as well as acting games, to follow what we feel, avoid caricature and explore the little differences that make all the difference.
Come with a mat and a couple of ‘characters’ in mind if you can, from a book, play or just made up.
