A Workshop with Tanztheater
Adrian Look
Small stories
of big contexts
3 hours In the Studio
Sunday 7th September 2025 2-5pm (BST)
Sadler's Wells, London
In this three hour workshop we will be embodying the Tanztheater philosophy by combining authenticity and depth of thought and movement with technical precision and pervasive improvisation. Perfect for anyone looking to finesse their interpretation of deep emotion through movement.
We shall focus on the unique Questioning and Answering approach, developed by Pina Bausch, to examine the connection between the big topics of our (and any) time and how we can speak of something big by doing something rather little.
In the Tanztheater philosophy honesty and authenticity are the driving forces for our creations, so how can we say a lot by doing a simple action or movement? The answers lie in the subtlety, intention and intensity of our explorations, both inner and outer.
This inside- out approach is a soul-searching exercise so we will go through some useful tools helping you to build a thread between your inner world and the bigger context that triggers that soul-searching place. This transformation from human to artist is what we are exploring.
The workshop will include some theory, and you will be encouraged to use a variety of approaches to explore your discoveries (dance, movement, voice, action) but it is neither a dance nor a theatre workshop. It is a Tanztheater workshop combining both worlds in a unique language and aesthetic.
